I’ll be presenting a paper at UCLA’s CLIC/LISO (Center for Language, Interaction, and Culture / Language, Interaction, and Social Organization) conference May 22-24.

I’ll also be presenting another, different paper at The University of Arizona’s Linguistics and Anthropology Symposium between May 9th – 11th.

I’m excited about the AAA Annual Meeting this week. Actually, I’ve been excited about it since this spring, when I first learned that the conference is being held at the Wardman Park Marriott, just a 10 minute bike ride (6.5 without traffic laws) from home on the GW campus. (okay- my actual home is the building behind the one pictured.)

I’ve circled more sessions in my abstract book than I could ever really attend. Jen Cardew (Synthesis of Thought) is presenting in a panel on “Issues in Applied Linguistic Anthropology” (Sat., 8am-11:45). Cardew! Kroskrity! Haviland! I’ll be sure to check that one out.

This is the script of a play that I co-wrote with Michelle Gorman, Michaela Grillo, and Chris Bloechl, and which our Anthropology in Performance class staged in May, 2007. Professor Allen teaches the course. [...or "taught" -- past tense? I hope not.] I’m really proud of what we accomplished.

An article I wrote last year (as a sophomore) has just been published in the Spring 2007 volume of Inquiry, GW’s undergraduate research journal. The title: A Constitution in Search of a Philosophy: Anthropological Perspectives on Judicial Interpretation.

I presented an earlier version of this paper at the 2006 University Writing Symposium. Thanks to Professor Derek Malone-France for his helpful comments on earlier drafts.
